NATURAL PHENOMENON

Catatumbo Lightning

The Catatumbo Lightning (Spanish: Relámpago del Catatumbo) is an atmospheric phenomenon in Venezuela. It occurs only over the mouth of the Catatumbo River where it empties into Lake Maracaibo. The frequent, powerful flashes of lightning over this relatively small area are considered to be the world's largest single generator of tropospheric ozone.
It originates from a mass of storm clouds at a height of more than 5 km, and occurs during 140 to 160 nights a year, 10 hours per day and up to 280 times per hour. It occurs over and around Lake Maracaibo, typically over the bog area formed where the Catatumbo River flows into the lake.
After appearing continually for centuries, the lightning ceased from January to April 2010, apparently due to drought. This raised fears that it might have been extinguished permanently. The phenomenon reappeared after several months.

Location and formation mechanism

The Catatumbo lightning usually develops between the coordinates 8°30′N 71°0′W and 9°45′N 73°0′W. The storms (and associated lightning) are likely the result of the winds blowing across the Maracaibo Lake and surrounding swampy plains. These air masses inevitably meet the high mountain ridges of the Andes, the Perijá Mountains (3,750 m), and Mérida's Cordillera, enclosing the plain from three sides. The heat and moisture collected across the plains creates electrical charges and, as the air masses are destabilized at the mountain ridges, result in almost continual thunderstorm activity. The phenomenon is     characterized by almost continuous lightning, mostly within the clouds, which is produced in a large vertical development of clouds that form large electric arcs between 2 and 10 km in height (or more). The lightning tends to start approximately one hour after dusk.
Among the major modern studies there is the one done by Melchor Centeno, who attributes the origin of the thunderstorms to closed wind circulation in the region. Between 1966 and 1970, Andrew Zavrostky investigated the area three times, with assistance from the University of the Andes. He concluded that the lightning has several epicenters in the marshes of Juan Manuel de Aguas National Park, Claras Aguas Negras, and west Lake Maracaibo. In 1991 he suggested that the phenomenon occurred due to cold and warm air currents meeting around the area. The study also speculated that an isolated cause for the lightning might be the presence of uranium in the bedrock.
Between 1997 and 2000 Nelson Falcón conducted several studies, and produced the first microphysics model of the Catatumbo Lightning. He identified the methane produced by the swamps and the oil deposits in the area as a major cause of the phenomenon. It has been noted to have little effect on local flora such as ferns, despite concerns.

Historical references

The first written mention of the Catatumbo lightning was in the epic poem "La Dragontea" (1597) by Lope de Vega, which recounts the defeat of English raider Sir Francis Drake. The Prussian naturalist and explorer Alexander von Humboldt once described it as "electrical explosions that are like phosphorescent gleam." Italian geographer Agustin Codazzi described it as a "lightning that seems to arise from the continued Zulia river and its surroundings." The phenomenon became so celebrated that it was depicted in the flag and coat of arms of the state of Zulia, which contains Lake Maracaibo, and mentioned in the state's anthem. This phenomenon has been popularly known for centuries as the Lighthouse of Maracaibo, since it is visible for miles around Lake Maracaibo.
In February 2014, The Weather Channel featured an article stating that the Catatumbo Lightning phenomenon in Venezuela had made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most lightning strikes in one region at any given time.

Cheese Cake

Here I am going to tell you  about my favorite food.

Perhaps everybody eats chocolate to relieve stress, it's different with me, If I eat cheese I will feel happy. At that time, already almost a month I didn't eat Cheese. I always imagined that I would eat cheese everyday, and when my mother's birthday, I would buy cheese cake for her so I would eat cheese cake too (the way that I could eat cheese haha... :))). My mother's birthday came, and I bought cheese cake for my mother. The cake that I bought was nice, but that cake less cheese tasted. My brother's birthday would soon came, and I suggested my mother to bought him cheese cake . I bought cheese cake at cizzcake, and I bought double cheese cake, immediately, we ate that cake in the car, WOW THE TASTE WAS VERY NICE, and I planned that I would buy again that cake someday. I search how  make cheese cake in the internet, and this the procedure:

Cheesecake Supreme

( source: www.bhg.com)

Ingredients Crust:
1 3/4
cups finely crushed graham crackers
1/4
cup finely chopped walnuts
1/2
teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2
cup butter, melted
Filling:
3
8 ounce packages cream cheese
1
cup sugar
2
tablespoons all-purpose flour
1
teaspoon vanilla
1/2
teaspoon finely shredded lemon peel (optional)
2
eggs
1
egg yolk
1/4
cup milk

Dairy sour cream (optional)

Seedless red raspberry preserves (optional)

Directions

    Crust:
  1. In a medium mixing bowl stir together crushed graham crackers, walnuts, and cinnamon. Stir in butter. If desired, reserve 1/4 cup for topping. Press remaining crumb mixture onto bottom and about 2 inches up sides of an 8- or 9-inch springform pan; set aside.
  2. Filling:
  3. Soften cream cheese. In a large mixing bowl combine cream cheese, sugar, flour, vanilla, and lemon peel (if using); beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until combined. Add whole eggs and egg yolk all at once, beating on low speed just until combined (do not overbeat). Stir in milk.
  4. Pour filling into crust-lined pan. If desired, top with reserved crumbs. Place on a shallow baking pan. Bake in a 375 degree F oven for 45 to 50 minutes for 8-inch pan, 35 to 40 minutes for 9-inch pan, or until center appears nearly set when shaken gently.
  5. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Using a sharp, thin bladed knife to loosen the crust from the sides of the pan; cool for 30 minutes more. Remove the sides of the pan; cool cheesecake completely. Cover and chill at least 4 hours before serving. Top cheesecake with sour cream and spoon on seedless red raspberry preserves; swirl with a spoon, if desired. Makes 12 to 16 servings.

From the Test Kitchen

Up to 1 day ahead, prepare and bake cheesecake. Cool as directed, then chill. Just before serving, swirl on sour cream and preserves, if desired.

Holiday

My Holiday

Hello guys! here I want to share you my holiday!!
My school holiday starts on 26 December 2014, but my family had plan that we would go for holiday before holiday time because at that time usually vacation spot is always crowded.

The place that we wanted to visit was Cipanas, Taman Safari or Pangandaran. After discussion, finally we chose Taman Safari. Before we went to Taman Safari, my mother prepared food for breakfast which could be eaten while on the way, yes, my mother made delicious lontong-food from indonesia that wrapped with banana's leaf- and all of my family helped my mother to make some lontong.

We leaf home at 5 o'clock. On the way we bought some snacks. at that time I felt so happy because we would have fun in the Taman Safari after a lot of task and tested at SMAN 3 BANDUNG-senior high school at Bandung, Indonesia-. Taman Safari didn't open when we arrived, so we (my family and others) waited and made same line for enter the gates of  Taman Safari. At 9 o'clock Taman Safari opened. We must pay ticket priced Rp 150.000/person to get in Taman Safari, and we can play anything overthere, but there are 3 games that we must pay again. Over there we saw many animal that previously we didn't know. We took picture, and gave them food (carrot). I think Animal that the most spooky was lion and tiger. they are very big and those look brave when they passed my car. The road was finish so it's time to play some games and watched some show. We parked a car, and we immediately went to rides. My father asked us (all of my family except my father) to ride kora kora. We accepted that requested with fear. We shouted and my father calmly took picture of us at kora kora, several time I asked the officer to stopped the kora kora. After shock games we go to relax games, yes, we ride bombom car, waw, it's very fun because I could crashed my car to others car :D. We almost ride all the rides. Except ride some rides we watched some show, there were seals show, bird show, lion show, variety animal show, till magic show. the part that I am very happy is when we went to baby zoo, over there I took picture with Orang utan, his name is Juna, I felt warm when I hug Juna after ride niagara gara- water games. We leaf Taman Safari  at 4 o'clock. I think Taman Safari is good, because there are many facilities that can make visitors satisfied.

At Kora-kora rides with my mother, sister, brother.

At Niagaragara rides with my sister.

We took a picture at one of park of Taman Safari. (My Father took a picture)

I took picture with Orang Utan

After we leaf Taman Safari, We went to Sate Maranggi at Purwakarta, actually need long time a trip from Taman Safari to Sate Maranggi, we intentionally to Sate Maranggi, because they sell very delicious sate. After exhausted holiday we went home with happy feelings, and I wish, I can go to Taman Safari again and meet Juna.

Narrative Text

THE FIRST WELL

There once was a small kingdom around a lake. One very hot summer, it did
not rain and the lake dried up. People grew anxious and went to the King. “It
has not rained for so long. Our fields are barren!” said the farmers. “There
are no fish to catch. How shall we earn a living?” asked the fishermen. “Save
us from disaster, good King,” urged the women, as their children cried with
thirst.

The King sent his four generals in all directions to look for water. The first
general went east, towards the sunrise; the second went south, to the dust
and heat; the third went west, where the sun sets; and the fourth followed
the North Star.

They searched day and night, night and day; high and low they searched
everywhere, but in vain. Three of the generals returned, empty-handed. But
the general who had gone north was determined not to fail his King. At last,
he reached a cold mountain village.

As he sat at the foot of the mountain, an old woman came by and sat next
to him. The general pointed at the horizon and said, “I belong to a beautiful
kingdom, where it has not rained for a whole year. Can you help me find
water?”

The woman motioned the general to follow her up the mountain and into a
cave. “We have no water in our country either,” she said. Then, pointing to
the icicles in the cave, she continued: “We call this ice. Take some, and your
kingdom will never go thirsty again.” The general broke off a huge piece,
loaded it onto his horse-cart and rushed back home.

By the time he reached the court, the enormous icicle had melted into a small
lump of ice. Nobody in the court had ever seen ice, so everybody gazed at it
with wonder. “This must be a water-seed!” one of the ministers exclaimed
suddenly. The King ordered the ‘water-seed’ to be sowed immediately.
While the farmers dug a hole, the lump dwindled in the sun. They swiftly
placed the seed in the hole, but before they could cover it up, it had vanished.
The farmers there grew confused and worried. They dug deeper and deeper
into the earth, all night long, looking for the mysterious seed.

At the break of dawn, the King found the farmers fast asleep around a hole.
Curious, he peeped in and cried out in amazement: “Wake up, my worthy
men – the water-seed has sprouted! There’s water in the hole!” This is how
the first well was created.

AMAZING STUCTURE

LLOYD'S BUILDING

Hi guys, I want to tell you about one of amazing structure in this world. I am sure that you will be stunned to see this stucture. That Amazing stucture is LLOYD'S BUILDING!!! Let me tell you about Lloyd's building, REMEMBER I never visit Lloyd's building, so, many infomation about Lloyd's building that I will give to you are from internet. Before I tell you about Lloyd's building, I want to say thankyou to Internet , THANKYOU INTERNET <3<3,<3.

The Lloyd's building (sometimes known as the Inside-Out Building) is the home of the insurance institution Lloyd's of London. It is located on the former site of East India House in Lime Street, in London's main financial district, the City of London. The building is a leading example of radical Bowellism architecture in which the services for the building, such as ducts and lifts, are located on the exterior to maximise space in the interior.

Twenty-five years after completion in 1986, the building received Grade I listing in 2011; it was the youngest structure ever to obtain this status. It is said by English Heritage to be "universally recognised as one of the key buildings of the modern epoch."

The first Lloyd's building (address 12 Leadenhall Street) had been built on this site in 1928. In 1958, due to expansion of the market, a new building was constructed across the road at 51 Lime Street (now the site of the Willis Building). Lloyd's now occupied the Heysham Building and the Cooper Building.

By the 1970s Lloyd's had again outgrown these two buildings and proposed to extend the Cooper Building. In 1978, the corporation ran an architectural competition which attracted designs from practices such as Foster Associates, Arup and I.M. Pei. Lloyd's commissioned Richard Rogers to redevelop the site, and the original 1928 building on the western corner of Lime and Leadenhall Streets was demolished to make way for the present one which was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 18 November 1986. The 1928 building's entrance at 12 Leadenhall Street was preserved and forms a rather incongruous attachment to the 1986 structure. Demolition of the 1958 building commenced in 2004 to make way for the 26-storey Willis Building.

The current Lloyd's building (address 1 Lime Street) was designed by architect Richard Rogers and built between 1978 and 1986. Bovis was the management contractor. Like the Pompidou Centre in Paris (designed by Renzo Piano and Rogers), the building was innovative in having its services such as staircases, lifts, electrical power conduits and water pipes on the outside, leaving an uncluttered space inside. The 12 glass lifts were the first of their kind in the United Kingdom. Like the Pompidou Centre, the building was highly influenced by the work of Archigram in the 1950s and 1960s.

The building consists of three main towers and three service towers around a central, rectangular space. Its core is the large Underwriting Room on the ground floor, which houses the Lutine Bell within the Rostrum. The Underwriting Room (often simply called "the Room") is overlooked by galleries, forming a 60 metres (197 ft) high atrium lit naturally through a huge barrel-vaulted glass roof. The first four galleries open onto the atrium space, and are connected by escalators through the middle of the structure. The higher floors are glassed in and can only be reached via the exterior lifts.

The 11th floor houses the Committee Room, an 18th-century dining room designed for the 2nd Earl of Shelburne by Robert Adam in 1763; it was transferred piece by piece from the previous (1958) Lloyd's building across the road at 51 Lime Street.

The Lloyd's building is 88 metres (289 ft) to the roof, with 14 floors. On top of each service core stand the cleaning cranes, increasing the overall height to 95.10 metres (312 ft). Modular in plan, each floor can be altered by addition or removal of partitions and walls.

In 2008 the Twentieth Century Society called for the building to be Grade I listedand in 2011 it was granted this status.

The building was previously owned by Dublin-based real estate firm Shelbourne Development Group, who purchased it in 2004 from a German investment bank. In July 2013 it was sold to the Chinese company Ping An Insurance in a £260 million deal.

That’s all obout Lloyd's building , and thanks a lot to internet that have helped me tell about Lloyd's building. I am sorry if I make mistake of using english words, Thankyou for reading
