Jaipongan Performance at Matswapati

Guys!! Do you know Matswapati?? Matswapati is one event which was held by SMAN 3 Bandung. That event supossed for preserved indonesia's culture. There are Jaipongan performance, wayang performance, and others cultural performances. I stunned to see Jaipongan dance, so i am going to tell you about Jaipongan dance. 

Jaipongan is a dance that was born from the creativity of an artist from Bandung, Gugum Gumbira. He was inspired by the folk art one of them is Tilu Tap into treasury well know and recognize movement patterns that exist in traditional dance or Bajidoran Kliningan or Tap Tilu. So that he can develop a dance or art that is now known by the name Jaipongan.

The beginning of its history is In 1961, Indonesian President Sukarno challenged Indonesian musicians to revive the indigenous arts. The name jaipongan came from people mimicking of the sounds created by some of the drums in the ensemble. Audiences were often heard shouting jaipong after specific sections of rhythmic music were played. Jaipongan debuted in 1974 when Gugum Gumbira and his gamelan and dancers first performed in public.

Dance Jaipongan today can be called as one of the West Javanese dances, looks at important events arrival of guests from foreign countries who came to West Java, always welcomed with dance performances Jaipongan. Jaipongan dance this much influence on other art-art that is in West Java, both in art wayang, gamelan, and other Genjring has even collaborated with Modern dangdut.

Now, Indonesia’s young generation have fogotten their own culture, the popularity of Jaipongan has decreased. Therefore, Matswapati, cultural Festival which was held by SMAN 3 Bandung senior high school, showed Jaipong dance.

At 27 September 2014, The four dancer of Jaipongan from Jugala Raya studio was beautiful with good make up. They wore pink kebaya and samping batik, they danced skillfully. The other atribute which they used was sword. I didn’t really know what musical instrumen which accompanied them, but usually Jaipongan accompany with gamelan.

Matswapati have us realize that Jaipong dance is not boring dance, but cool dance. I belive that someday Jaipong dance will be popular because us, Indonesia’s young generation.

Now is our time to preserve Jaipongan. We are Indonesia’s young generation, so if not us, who else? If not now, when? Spirit Indonesia!! I love you.

UNFORGETTABLE MOMENT

  PAGELARAN

The moment that I never forget is when Pagelaran at 9th grade. Pagelaran is one of the practice test of 5 JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL Bandung. Pagelaran filled with many performances, there are playing flute with several of 9-B squad (9-B is My class at 5 JHS Bandung), Ngawih (Sing a sundanese song), musical poetry, and many additional performances from several student who wanted to show off their talent.

Actually Pagelaran is not something that unforgettable moment but the process to show Pagelaran is very impressive for me.

I was the leader of that event, so I must manage that event to be able to run successfully. The duty to be a leader was a little difficult, I thought the part was very difficult was, when we had different opinion and it became dispute , but it’s okay, that’s life with many people, we must accept all opinion which was different from our opinion. 

Sometimes our spirit down, actually that was a big problem, spirit is very important for our performance, so if our spirit our down, it’s my duty to rise up my friend’s spirit.

Now the story begin, I am going to tell you about Pagelaran. It’s in the morning D-7 from pagelaran show, several teacher who taught Culture and Art, Indonesia Language and Literature, Sundanese, and ICT told us that the practice test of Culture and Art combined with Sundanese, Indonesian Language and Literature, and ICT. There were performances  that must be present, there were playing flute for Culture and Art score, Ngawih for Sundanese score, musical poetry for Indonesian Language and Literature score, and for ICT score was, made a video from pagelaran show and others practice lesson which didn’t present in pagelaran show.

Playing flute test, and Ngawih test didn’t require all student to play, just several who could play flute and ngawih show their performance gave all student score. For musical poetry test divided in some group, so all sudent must present their performance, and for made video divided in some group too, my group was three members, and we were alloted to make video music lessons practice test.

We practiced to prepare pagelaran show, everyday. At the time all teachers understood the condition that we would face practice test, so they always gave us free time, andthen we could practice when studying time. Usually we practice at Kartini park at 5 JHS, I love that moment, because that time I felt our friendship became solid, the practice was not running too serious, we enjoy the practice. I remember the part I couldn’t stop laughing when we made  a song for musical poetry, the lyrics that we made were funny. 

Besides we prepare our perfomances, we must decor our stage. Our design is, make  a big TV, so we as though showed in the TV.

We made TV at Rara’s place. Several boy bought materials for decoration, and the others made something which support decoration from available materials. The material of made TV were styrofoam, woods, and paint. Made a TV was not easy as I thought. The first we must cut styrofoam, andthen the styrofoam that have been cut,  taped on the wood(it’s still easy). When all have done, the TV often fall, several times we must change the stucture of TV until the TV could stay perfectly. AalhamduLillah when Pagelaran time, it could stay until Pagelaran finished.

The part when I couldn’t stop laughing when comedy performance from my friend, until now if i remember their jokes  I always laugh. Actually I miss that moment.

Pagelaran is the moment I never forget. Our hardworking and our laughing always remember till i become old, I miss you 9-B!.
